Amsterdam, 15 October Europe’s energy transition requires more than generating renewable energy, it also means finding smarter ways to use the energy we have. That’s one of the reasons Rabot Energy caught our attention, and why Endeit is lead investor in its $50M Series B funding round, supporting them as the market leader in dynamic energy tariffs.
DeepTech & Climate Fonds (DTCF) also participated in the round alongside existing investors including HV Capital, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Bosch Ventures, CNI, Acurio Ventures and vent.io.
From Consumers to Active Participants in the Energy System
With the reality that electricity demand is set to grow 2.5 times faster than overall energy demand by 2030, increasingly, the question is not only how much electricity is generated, but also when and how it is consumed.
A key part of Rabot’s strategy is the intelligent integration of home battery storage, which aggregates connected batteries into a virtual power plant, helping to flexibly manage the consumption and storage of energy. Batteries charge when renewable electricity is abundant and discharge when it is scarce.
Every kilowatt-hour shifted in this way reduces the need for gas-fired generation during peak hours - and turns millions of homes into a decentralised energy infrastructure that supports the expansion of renewable energy, lowers electricity costs and makes Europe’s energy supply less dependent on fossil fuel imports. Households move from being passive consumers to active participants in the energy system – and are rewarded for the flexibility they provide.
It’s a proposition that clearly resonates. Within three and a half years, Rabot has acquired more than 200,000 customers, and grown revenue to €200 million.
Building Europe’s Energy Future
The new boost of capital allows the company to accelerate its next phase of growth: expansion of its offering for residential, commercial and industrial customers in Germany, further develop its technology platform and connect additional devices – from home batteries and EV chargers to heat pumps.
Sara Resvik, Partner at Endeit, leading our Energy Tech investments, comments:
“The energy transition in Germany is reaching a point where flexibility is becoming just as important as expanding renewable energy. Rabot is creating the conditions to actively involve millions of households: they help stabilise the power grid while benefiting from the flexibility they provide. Jan Rabe and his team have built a profitable core business and developed the technology to intelligently manage electricity demand at scale. This is exactly the combination an energy system increasingly based on renewable energy needs. We are proud to lead this funding round.”
Jan Rabe, CEO of Rabot Energy, adds:
“The next generation of power plants will not be built; it will be connected. Millions of households have enormous untapped potential to do more than simply consume energy and instead become an active part of the wider energy system. With our Series B, we are turning individual households into a network that helps stabilise the power system, accelerate the energy transition and, at the same time, significantly reduce our customers’ electricity bills.”
